Distance learning - self-paced learningDeveloped alongside the co-operation pilot project on reorientation of patent information centres in blended form, a substantial part of the training is delivered in form of distance learning. E-learning modules and regular virtual classroom sessions will allow participants to acquire new skills, consolidate and broaden existing know-how in prior-art search and enable them to advise more comprehensively their clients. The first distance learning part of the course offers participants tutored exercises as well as practical hands-on sessions that will be conducted by experienced PATLIB and EPO experts.

Materials
Optional training material will be made available in the form of e-learning modules and pdfs on the Academy's Learning Management System. There participants will also find all documentation and have a forum at their disposal for the exchange of information and experiences with participants and tutors.Objectives
After completion of the course you will- know how to find the gist of invention, how to associate invention with classification
- have understood the functionalities of Espacenet, TACSY and IPCCAT and be able to apply appropriate strategies
- be able to search in Depatisnet, non-patent-literature and be familiar with respective retrieval language
- know the scope of "freedom to operate" searches
- be familiar with the basic requirements for patentability
- be able to draft an informative search report, based on the jointly agreed structure
